Robert Mapplethorpe Reflection

Robert Mapplethorpe's work was blatantly provocative and I think it played a huge factor towards his success. Robert developed his artistic identity at Pratt, and by the time he started shooting on a camera he was able to bring his ideas to life. I think another factor in Robert's success was the capitalization of the era he was living in. At the time was the rise of Rock and Roll and punk. A very open minded civilization at the time. I think it was cool to hear how Robert wasn't a "professional" with the camera, but he had a vision and passion and that's all it took to create his art. I think I can relate to that because I don't think I create anything special, but maybe to others its cooler than I can imagine. I'm not a nerd about my camera or software, and I think it holds back my output because I question myself as an artist. It was cool learning about Robert and the brief analysis I had about myself as an artist.  <==== that WAS intentional
